Poor or slow Internet service will give you those problems regarding server connection and the system quickly recognizing whether someone left or not. I have played for about 2 months and I've never had to wait 15 minutes for anything, I'd just quit. And there's really no way to keep people from quitting an online game if they don't get what they want; no online game prevents that. I can't blame Valve. Your point about everyone being able to pick up one auto shotgun seems like a problem with realism... but dude, you have unlimited ammo for your pistol! How realistic is that? I think Valve did a good job with GAMEPLAY on L4D, and that's way more important than realism. They made a co-op game where teamwork not only matters, but is essential.
